Joel BarnettI was born in 1956 in Portland, OR USA, ordinary middle class family. I Graduated from high school in Vancouver, WA 1974 and attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1979 with BA in Philosophy. My interest in music began about 1968, with AM top 40. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Doors, CCR, etc. being early faves. I learned to play guitar about this time. When I was in college, I became aware of punk rock and it seeemed like a great thing to me, possessing the qualities in music I had admired in those earlier groups. This caused me to also take a look at 60's garage band, rockabilly, and R'n' R precursors in the country-western field, (Jimmy Rodgers, Hank Williams, etc) and in the late '40's- early fifties R 'n' B genre, such as Wynonnie Harris, LaVern Baker, Big Joe Turner, etc. Late in 1981 I was back in working as a shipping clerk, wanting to be in a band doing '60's garage band type stuff. I helped found The Miracle Workers and played together until the Spring of 1986. They moved to LA, I stayed in Portland. I got married and with musicial direction conflicts within the MW's I decided to call it quits. These days I'm remarried, working in the IT field, and still enjoying the music that influenced me.
