Johnny Bilek is a native Californian having lived there all his life. His paternal grandfather was a major influence upon him as a youngster and he imparted to Johnny a love for music of the 1930's and 1940's as well as a love of radio. At home, his parents were always playing music from their era, the 1960's, and he grew up with an appreciation for all things from the first half of the twentieth century. As a teen, Johnny taught himself to the play alto saxophone and the guitar. In his high school band, he participated in a special group which played jazz, big band and swing. Johnny began collecting 78's right out of high school and has quite a catalogue of records ranging from the early 1900's to the 1950's. He also has quite a collection of period radios from the 1940's.
